Amethyst
Amethyst has been worn in Greece since antiquity — the name comes from amethystos, the ancient belief that the stone guarded against intoxication. At the Damaskos workshop in Athens, it is set in 18K or 22k gold, its violet reading cool and deliberate against the warmth of the metal.
Stones are chosen for saturation rather than size, and settings follow the same Byzantine vocabulary found throughout the collection: granulation, twisted wire borders, and bezels that hold the stone close to the goldwork rather than raising it above.
